ALISON HAUGHTON'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN WARRINGTON: SEXUAL ASSAULT AND VIOLENCE LEAVE NEIGHBORHOOD IN SHOCK
In a disturbing series of incidents that unfolded in Warrington, Alison Haughton, aged 54, has been convicted and sentenced for a range of serious offences, including sexual assault, assaulting emergency workers, and criminal damage. The events, which took place over the course of several months, have left the local community deeply unsettled and have highlighted concerns about mental health and alcohol abuse among offenders.
On May 6, outside an address in Orford, Warrington, Haughton caused a public disturbance that culminated in a distressing sexual assault on her neighbor.
According to court reports, the victim, Michael O’Kane, was inside his home when he heard loud shouting, swearing, and the sound of glass smashing against the wall.
Concerned by the commotion, he stepped outside to investigate and saw Haughton attempting to climb into the delivery vehicle of his food shopping.
As he approached, Haughton, visibly intoxicated, was trying to open the vehicle door.
When the neighbor called out, asking, “What are you doing?”, she responded with a shriek of apparent excitement, as if she was pleased to see him.
Without warning, she moved towards him and grabbed him by the hips, then demanded, “Give me a kiss.” Despite his protests and attempts to distance himself, Haughton persisted with inappropriate sexual advances.
She grabbed his T-shirt and tried to pull him closer, insisting, “If you want me to let go, you need to give me a kiss.” The neighbor, alarmed by her behavior, retreated back into his home, but Haughton followed him, pushing against his door in an effort to enter.
During this confrontation, Haughton made disturbing comments, including, “I just love you, but you won’t sh*g me,” and continued to suggest they have sex.
The situation escalated as she sat on a wall nearby, crying and making bizarre statements, such as comparing her desire to walk in a straight line to “a line of cocaine.” Following the incident, the victim described to police that he believed Haughton was suffering from mental health issues at the time.
He also revealed that she had previously made unwanted sexual comments towards him, indicating a pattern of troubling behavior.
In addition to the sexual assault, Haughton faced charges related to her conduct on January 2 of the same year.
At that time, she was staying at the Patten Arms Hotel on Parker Street in Warrington town center while on bail.
Police officers responded to a call reporting her abusive behavior and damage to a fire alarm within the hotel.
When PC Hand arrived at her room, he observed two bottles of Jack Daniels whiskey on the side.
Haughton, who was slurring her speech, refused to leave the premises and made provocative remarks, including, “I am 53, you are a kid,” and offered her bottles of whiskey to the officers, which she then poured down the sink.
She also slapped PC Hand on the arm, kicked him in the chest, and continued to hit and kick him even after falling to the floor.
Despite being restrained and placed on the bed, Haughton persisted in her abusive behavior, asking the officers, “Do you want to have sex?” She also directed offensive language at PC Hand and PC Davy, calling them derogatory names.
When attempts were made to detain her, she tried to bite one of the officers, further complicating her arrest.
The damage caused to the fire alarm amounted to £153.60.
Haughton denied all charges during her trial, but the court found her guilty of multiple offences.
Her defense lawyer, Simon Dunn, explained that prior to 2023, Haughton had maintained a clean record.
However, following a difficult divorce, she developed alcohol dependency issues that contributed to her recent offending behavior, which included criminal damage, threatening conduct, and assaulting emergency personnel.
Haughton appeared before Warrington Magistrates Court via video link from HMP Styal, where she had been remanded for five weeks.
During the hearing, she was muted at times due to comments she made that were deemed inappropriate.
In sentencing, the chair of the bench, Sandra Jane Verity, imposed a total prison term of 38 weeks for the offences of common assault, assault by beating, and sexual assault.
Additionally, she was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187, and upon her release, she must report to a police station to sign onto the sex offender register for a period of 12 months.
A seven-year restraining order was also issued, prohibiting her from making any contact with the victim in the future.
This case underscores the serious consequences of alcohol abuse and mental health struggles, and it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community safety and support for vulnerable individuals in Warrington.
