ALI PARKOOK SPARED PRISON IN CAMBRIDGE SEX OFFENCES CASE

In a case that has drawn significant attention in Cambridge, 19-year-old Ali Parkook, a college student residing on Fairfax Road, was brought before Judge Gareth Hawkesworth at Cambridge Crown Court on a recent Friday to face sentencing for multiple serious sexual offences.

The charges against him included three counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one count of creating and possessing indecent images of a child.

These offences came to light after a detailed forensic analysis of Parkook’s computer, which uncovered a series of messages he had sent to several young girls.

Investigations revealed that he had contacted at least two victims, both under the age of 18, with additional potential victims whose ages could not be confirmed.

Despite the evidence, Parkook maintained a consistent stance of denial throughout his trial, claiming that someone else had accessed his computer without his knowledge.

However, the jury found him guilty on December 17 after considering the evidence presented.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Hawkesworth addressed the court, highlighting that Parkook’s offending appeared to be linked to his social circumstances.

The judge noted that Parkook was a young man from a close-knit and supportive family, possessing considerable intelligence.

Nonetheless, the judge described him as immature and socially isolated at the time of the offences.

He explained that Parkook found it difficult to interact socially with girls his own age, which contributed to his inappropriate behaviour.

Judge Hawkesworth remarked, “You are a young man from a close and supportive family of considerable intelligence, but a young man who I consider at the time of these offences was immature and socially isolated.

You have found social interaction with girls your own age awkward and difficult.” The judge further emphasized the overwhelming nature of the evidence against him but acknowledged the shame and difficulty Parkook might face in being honest with his family about his actions.

Despite the strength of the evidence, Parkook remained in denial, insisting that others must have been responsible for the computer access.

The jury, however, was convinced otherwise, and the court found the evidence against him compelling.

In terms of sentencing, Judge Hawkesworth opted for a two-year suspended prison sentence combined with a supervision order.

Additionally, Parkook was sentenced to complete 175 hours of unpaid community work.

Due to his prolonged denial and the seriousness of his offences, he was also ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of seven years.

The judge indicated that if Parkook demonstrates genuine remorse and takes steps toward rehabilitation, there might be a possibility of reducing the duration of his registration in the future.

The court’s decision underscores the importance of accountability and the potential for rehabilitation, but also highlights the gravity of the offences committed in Cambridge.
