2008: MAN JAILED AFTER STABBING HIS FORMER PARTNER IN YARMOUTH

A 33-year-old man in Yarmouth who stabbed his former partner five times, causing her to have part of her lung removed, was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court yesterday.

Ali Ebrahem had denied wounding Alicia Knapska with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm on November 22 last year.

During the trial, the court heard that he had stabbed his victim in the body causing her to have a collapsed lung, part of which had to be removed later.

Ebrahem, of no fixed abode, had told her: “I love you so much it's going to finish now”, as she got on a bus to go to work.

A jury had found him guilty and he was sentenced yesterday.

The court was told he had beaten a woman up on three previous occasions.

Judge Simon Barham gave him an indeterminate sentence under which he must serve at least four-and-a-half years before being considered by a parole board for release.

He will be on licence for 10 years once released.

Jonathan Morgans, mitigating, said the offence involved specific circumstances.

The court heard that in May 2000 Ebrahem was involved in the robbery of a woman in Germany when he demanded a cash card and PIN.

The judge told him: “My assessment of you is you represent a threat to women you become emotionally involved with.” He added that he was not recommending deportation because of procedural matters.
