ALAN FITZPATRICK'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN KESGRAVE AND YARMOUTH: REPEAT SEX OFFENDER SENT BACK TO PRISON
In a significant development in ongoing efforts to address serious sexual offenses, Alan Fitzpatrick, a known sex offender with a troubling criminal history linked to Kesgrave and Great Yarmouth, has been sentenced to serve additional time behind bars.The recent conviction stems from an incident that took place in February of the previous year, where Fitzpatrick was found guilty of sexually assaulting another man at his residence in Kesgrave.
Fitzpatrick, aged 49 at the time of sentencing, had previously been under investigation for heinous crimes, which contributed to his notorious reputation.
Following his arrest, he chose to flee the country, traveling to Dublin the very next day.
Despite efforts to evade justice, authorities tracked him down in April, leading to his recall to prison.
During the court proceedings, Fitzpatrick admitted to one count of sexual touching without consent and two counts of breaching notification requirements that had been imposed following his earlier convictions.
The detective leading the investigation praised the victim’s bravery, highlighting the tremendous courage it took to come forward and support the case.
The court heard that Fitzpatrick’s criminal history is extensive and deeply troubling.
In 2008, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison for the rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault of two young girls and boys, crimes committed while he was living in the Great Yarmouth area.
His past also includes a seven-month jail term in Croydon in 1992 for assaults on children, and a three-year sentence in Dublin in 1997 for indecent assault on a female.
Most recently, in February of the previous year, Fitzpatrick committed a sexual assault on a sleeping man in his twenties at his Kesgrave home.
The victim, who awoke during the assault, managed to leave immediately and contacted the police.
Fitzpatrick was arrested hours later.
During police questioning, he chose to answer questions with a silence, offering no comment to Detective Constable Jared Fortune.
Despite this, he was released on bail but quickly violated his probation conditions by driving to the Port of Holyhead and boarding a ferry to Dublin.
He remained there until his arrest and subsequent recall to prison on April 7.
Following his arrest and appearance in custody, Fitzpatrick was sentenced to an additional 32 months in prison by Recorder Heather Rogers QC.
The court also imposed a further ten years of sex offender notification requirements, emphasizing the seriousness of his offenses and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
Fitzpatrick’s criminal record is marked by a series of heinous acts dating back to the early 1990s.
His history includes convictions for assaulting minors, indecent assault, and other sexual offenses.
His pattern of predatory behavior was detailed during his trial, where it was revealed that he had admitted to being sexually attracted to children and acknowledged the need for help.
The court described him as an alarmingly predatory individual, emphasizing the danger he continues to pose.
Judge Paul Downes, presiding over the case, imposed an indeterminate sentence, stating that Fitzpatrick would not be eligible for parole until he is deemed no longer a risk to the public.
The judge also ordered that Fitzpatrick be placed on the sex offender register for life and banned him from working with children.
Additionally, a sexual-offences prevention order was issued, prohibiting him from ever being alone with a child under 16.
The court’s decision underscores the gravity of Fitzpatrick’s crimes and the ongoing concern for community safety in Kesgrave, Yarmouth, and beyond.
