ALI ALAGOZ SENTENCED IN HULL FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE CASE INVOLVING YOUNG GIRLS
In August 2018, a disturbing case of child sexual abuse came to light in Hull, involving a man named Ali Alagoz, aged 42, who was found guilty of preying on two young girls and subjecting them to prolonged sexual exploitation. The case was heard at Hull Crown Court, where a jury convicted Alagoz on two counts of indecency with a child following a trial that commenced earlier that week.
According to court proceedings, Alagoz, who had arrived in the United Kingdom from Turkey just a year prior to the abuse, engaged in a series of sexual acts with the two victims over a period of three months during the early 2000s.
The court was presented with victim impact statements that painted a harrowing picture of the lasting damage inflicted upon the girls.
One of the victims described how the abuse had left her feeling too anxious to leave her home and unable to form healthy relationships with men.
She expressed that she felt she had been unable to move forward with her life, citing the suspension from school as a pivotal moment that disrupted her education and subsequent employment prospects.
She also blamed herself for the abuse, which she said had left her with deep emotional scars.
Another victim, in her statement, revealed that she continues to relive the trauma daily, and the abuse has had a profound impact on her current romantic relationship.
Despite the jury's verdict on the two counts of indecency, Alagoz was acquitted of an additional charge of indecent assault on a child.
During sentencing, Judge David Tremberg addressed the court, emphasizing the gravity of Alagoz’s actions.
He highlighted how the defendant exploited the innocence of the pre-pubescent girls, taking advantage of their lack of understanding to carry out the abuse.
The judge pointed out that Alagoz’s conduct was opportunistic and carefully planned, with the defendant, who was in his early 20s at the time, orchestrating the abuse to maximize his own gratification.
Judge Tremberg remarked on the enduring harm caused by Alagoz’s actions, noting that the victims’ lives had been significantly affected in multiple areas, including their education, employment, and personal relationships.
He stated, “What you did has had a continuous and deep-seated effect, enduring on those girls, lasting harm in most aspects of their lives.
That it has had an effect on their school, work, and relationships.
The other girl, her life remains infused and overshadowed, and what you did lives on in her every day.” In sentencing Alagoz to five and a half years in prison, the judge ordered that he serve half of that term.
He also pointed out that the case was characterized by the defendant’s calculated planning, which contributed to the severity of the sentence.
The court considered the risk of reoffending but noted that Alagoz had not committed similar offenses since the incident, and he had no previous convictions.
The judge clarified that if the case had involved additional charges, the sentence would have been considerably longer.
Furthermore, Alagoz was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, which prohibits him from residing in a house at the same time as a female under 16.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to prevent further harm.
