ALFRED WELLER AND SHOCKING CHILD RAPE IN HAVANT

A man identified as Alfred Weller has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a young girl in the Havant area. The disturbing case uncovered evidence of prolonged and repeated assaults on the victim, who was under the age of 13 at the time of the attacks. The court proceedings revealed that Weller, aged 30 and residing on Spinner Drive, carried out these assaults over an extended period, inflicting profound harm on the child.

The court was informed that Weller's depraved acts included raping the young girl and taking numerous photographs of the abuse. The images, which numbered into the dozens, depicted the humiliation and suffering of the victim during each assault. Prosecutors described Weller as 'canny' and 'disgusting' for his calculated and prolonged sexual abuse. Despite being on the radar of social services—who had previously flagged concerns about his background—Weller was able to continue his predatory behavior until his arrest in December 2022.

During the police investigation, officers discovered a disturbing array of indecent images linked to Weller. Specifically, he possessed 44 Category A images of his victim—the most severe classification—and additional images classified as Category B and C. Further probing revealed a broader collection of illicit images, including 215 Category A, 221 Category B, and 324 Category C images of other children, illustrating a widespread pattern of disturbing behavior.

The case was further compounded by the testimony of the victim, who told officers that Weller had been abusing her for years, a statement that confirmed the ongoing nature of the abuse. The police conducted detailed investigations, including the examination of recordings that provided substantial evidence linking Weller directly to the inflicted harm. This evidence was crucial in securing his conviction.

Judge Richard Shepherd expressed strong condemnation of Weller's actions, emphasizing that the defendant’s 'prolonged sexual abuse' took place in a setting where the child was supposed to be safe but was, in reality, subjected to unspeakable acts. The judge highlighted Weller's manipulative and opportunistic nature, describing him as 'canny' and adding that his actions were nothing short of 'disgusting.'

Weller faced multiple charges, including rape, five counts of sexual assault, and six charges related to possession of indecent images of a child. The court acknowledged Weller’s vulnerabilities and immature behavior relative to his age, but nonetheless sentenced him to a significant prison term. He will serve two-thirds of his sentence behind bars before being eligible for parole.

In addition to his imprisonment, Weller will be subject to lifelong restrictions, including mandatory registration as a sex offender and a sexual harm prevention order. These measures are intended to ensure ongoing monitoring and to prevent any further abuse, underscoring the severity with which the justice system has responded to his heinous crimes in Havant.
