ALFRED BUTLER SHOCKS KINETON WITH SEXUAL ABUSE OF TWO GIRLS DURING GAME OF ‘TRUTH OR DARE’
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the small community of Kineton, Alfred Butler, a 49-year-old man, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing two young girls who visited his flat to play a computer game. The incident, which took place in the summer of 2011, involved a series of heinous acts that unfolded under the guise of a seemingly innocent game of ‘truth or dare’.According to court proceedings, Butler invited the two girls, aged ten and thirteen, into his residence on St Peter’s Road in Kineton, ostensibly to enjoy his Nintendo Wii gaming console. After approximately thirty minutes of playing, Butler offered the girls cigarettes and then suggested they play ‘truth or dare’. What followed was a series of disturbing dares that involved indecent touching, which left the young victims frightened and confused. Despite their discomfort, the girls complied with Butler’s instructions, fearing that if they refused or tried to leave, he might pursue them or cause further harm.
Realizing the situation was escalating, the girls retreated to the bathroom to discuss their options. They were afraid that leaving the flat might provoke Butler’s anger or pursuit, so they decided to pretend the game was over and resumed playing the computer game. However, Butler persisted, proposing another round of ‘truth or dare’ and offering them cigarettes laced with what he claimed was ‘weed’. The younger girl was dared to remove her trousers, and Butler then kissed her forcefully on the mouth, making inappropriate and suggestive remarks. The girls, overwhelmed and scared, expressed their desire to leave due to the time, and after exiting the flat, they confided in the older girl’s mother about the ordeal. The police were promptly called to investigate the allegations.
When questioned, Butler vehemently denied the accusations, dismissing the girls as liars and falsely claiming they had stolen £20 from him. Prosecutor Neil Bannister highlighted Butler’s troubling history, revealing that he had previously been fined in 1981 for unlawful sexual activity with an underage girl. Additionally, in 1999, he was sentenced to two years in prison for indecent assault on a girl. Since then, Butler had also been convicted of failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements.
During the court hearing at Warwick Crown Court, the defense pointed out that Butler was only a teenager at the time of his first offense and argued that the recent crimes were not among the most serious. Nevertheless, Judge Trevor Faber sentenced Butler to 12 months in prison, emphasizing the gravity of his actions. The judge also ordered Butler to register as a sex offender for ten years and imposed a lifelong sexual offences prevention order, which prohibits him from having unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 16.
Judge Faber stated, “You have pleaded guilty to seven offences involving sexual assaults on two very young girls. It was persistent conduct. They were entitled to feel safe in your home, and their parents were entitled to expect you to behave appropriately towards them. But you invited them to play a game of ‘truth or dare’, which was a ruse to get those girls to touch your private parts and for you to touch them indecently.”
