INVERGORDON SEX OFFENDERS ALEXANDER STEWART AND CHRISTOPHER DRUMMOND SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC RAPE OF TEENAGER
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Invergordon, two brothers, Alexander Stewart and Christopher Drummond, were convicted and sentenced for their involvement in a brutal sexual assault against a teenage girl. The incident took place at Stewart’s flat located on Invergordon High Street in Ross-shire, on October 18 of the previous year, 2017. The court heard that Stewart, aged 20 at the time, had initially met the victim through the popular dating app Badoo, which led to a series of events culminating in a horrific assault.According to the court proceedings, both Stewart and Drummond subjected the 19-year-old victim to a sequence of sexual assaults that were described as 'appalling' by the presiding judge. The High Court in Edinburgh was told that Drummond, who was 23 at the time, had ordered Stewart to hold the victim down during the attack, and he issued further commands as the assault continued. Lady Carmichael, the judge overseeing the case, emphasized that Drummond exerted a dominating influence over Stewart, who appeared to be under his older brother’s control.
During the trial, evidence revealed that Drummond, who claimed to be the 'boss' in the household, instructed Stewart to give the victim what she 'deserved,' despite her pleas for the violence to stop. The judge noted that Drummond’s attitude towards women was 'extremely troubling,' and his behavior was characterized by a pattern of control and aggression. Stewart, who was described as someone susceptible to manipulation, was considered genuinely afraid of his older brother, which the court took into account when sentencing.
Both brothers were found guilty of multiple charges, including assault and two counts of rape. The court heard that during the assault, the victim’s lower clothing was removed, and she was restrained in a bedroom where both men raped her. Stewart then forcibly pulled her from the room and raped her again. Witnesses described the victim as crying hysterically after the attack, highlighting the trauma she endured.
Additional testimony from a woman who was present that evening painted a disturbing picture of the events leading up to the assault. She recounted arriving at Stewart’s flat with her children and finding Drummond there. She observed Drummond encouraging Stewart to play the accordion and noted that he was physically touching the teenage girl in a playful yet inappropriate manner. The woman expressed her concern about the girl staying at the flat, especially as the evening progressed and she sensed something was wrong. She described feeling uneasy after overhearing Drummond deny touching the girl and later witnessing her distressed state after the assault.
Following the verdict, both Stewart and Drummond were visibly emotional, with court officers providing tissues as they dabbed their eyes. The court also heard that Stewart’s criminal record was less extensive than Drummond’s, who had previous convictions for violence and was already on the sex offenders’ register. The judge sentenced Drummond to seven years in prison, while Stewart received a sentence of four and a half years. Additionally, Stewart was ordered to undergo 18 months of supervision, and both brothers were placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
In her sentencing remarks, Lady Carmichael highlighted Stewart’s vulnerability, suggesting he was easily manipulated by his older brother, and expressed concern about Drummond’s troubling attitude towards women. The case has left the community of Invergordon deeply shaken, as it underscores the dangers of exploitation and abuse within familiar settings. The court’s decision aims to serve justice for the victim and send a clear message about the severity of such crimes in the region.
