ALEXANDER GRAVES FROM HILTON, KESWICK, AND WIGTON SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF YOUNG GIRL

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Hilton, Keswick, and Wigton, Alexander Graves, a 45-year-old man with ties to these areas, has been sentenced to an indefinite prison term following his conviction for the heinous crime of raping a young girl. The incident, which spanned over several years, involved Graves targeting his young victim, subjecting her to repeated assaults that left a lasting impact on her life.

According to court proceedings, Graves, who at the time resided in Wigton and later in Keswick, engaged in a disturbing pattern of abuse that began when the girl was only 12 years old. During the trial, it was revealed that Graves sometimes forced the girl to wear her school uniform during the attacks, adding a layer of psychological manipulation and humiliation to his crimes. The young victim was terrified into silence, with Graves warning her that revealing the abuse would bring “more trouble that it was worth,” effectively silencing her for years.

The case came to a head in December of the previous year, after a week-long trial at Derby Crown Court. The jury found Graves guilty of one count of rape and two charges of sexual activity with a child. However, he was acquitted of a second rape charge and an additional count of indecency with a child. The court heard that Graves’s offending occurred between August 2002 and July of the following year, marking a prolonged period of abuse.

Following his conviction, Judge John Wait sentenced Graves to an indeterminate term for the protection of the public. The judge specified that Graves must serve a minimum of five years and four months before being eligible for parole. Additionally, Graves was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his movements post-release. Judge Wait emphasized that the decision regarding his release would be at the discretion of the parole board, underscoring the seriousness of his crimes.

During sentencing, the judge expressed strong condemnation of Graves’s character, stating, “You are an educated man and a devious man and I do not accept you have dealt truthfully with anybody. There is a real risk that you would commit another offence, causing serious harm.”

The court also heard that Graves had once studied with the intention of becoming a teacher but was dissuaded from pursuing that career after obtaining his degree. The case has left the local communities of Hilton, Keswick, and Wigton deeply disturbed, especially as it was revealed that the abuse began when the girl was just 12 years old and continued until last year, after Graves moved from Keswick to Hilton, near Derby. The court’s verdict and sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children and the devastating impact of such predatory behavior.
