SOLDIER CONVICTED OF UNDERAGE SEX CRIME AFTER CHAT SITE MESSAGES
A soldier named Alexander Gemmell, aged 29, with an address at Beechgrove Place, Perth, was involved in illegal sexual misconduct with an underage boy.
The incident involved Gemmell communicating with a minor via a gay and bi-sexual chat website called Fab Guys.
The case came to light after the boy's mother discovered he had taken illegal drugs, which the boy revealed had been supplied by Gemmell.
She contacted the police, leading to an investigation that was part of Operation Barlee.
The underage boy admitted he joined the website to meet men for sex, and he disclosed his true age to Gemmell before their meeting.
The two met on derelict land in Perth, where they engaged in sex acts, and Gemmell attempted anal sex with the boy.
Detectives arrived at the Leuchars Army base in February to interview Gemmell, who subsequently admitted to sending a sexual message to a boy under 16 between August last year and January this year, and to engaging in sexual activity with him.
Gemmell's sentence was deferred until October 12 for background reports, and he was to be placed on the sex offenders’ register.
