ALEXANDER ARROL OF PAISLEY SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY AFTER THROWING DOG MAX FROM SECOND-FLOOR WINDOW

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Paisley, Alexander David Arrol, born on June 23, 1986, and residing on Waverley Road, was convicted of a heinous act of animal cruelty.

The incident occurred on February 27, 2017, when Arrol, after being asked to leave a social gathering, committed a brutal act against a defenseless dog named Max.

According to court proceedings, Arrol threw the small Jack Russell terrier from the window of a second-floor flat.

The fall resulted in severe injuries to Max, who was subsequently taken to a local veterinary clinic for emergency treatment.

Veterinarians diagnosed the dog with significant head trauma and confirmed that he was unable to bear weight on his right hind leg.

The injuries were so severe that Max’s leg had to be amputated to save his life.

Max, a puppy at the time of the attack, became a tragic victim of Arrol’s callousness.

The act of cruelty was described as mindless and devoid of any compassion, leaving the community appalled and saddened by the suffering inflicted upon the innocent animal.

During the court hearing, Arrol pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to the dog, in violation of the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.

He also admitted to culpably and recklessly breaking the window of the flat and throwing a television set along with other unspecified items onto the street below, causing potential danger to passersby and property damage.

Arrol’s defense lawyer highlighted that his client, a career criminal with a record of 55 previous convictions, suffers from anxiety and depression.

Despite these claims, the court found the evidence of cruelty and reckless behavior compelling.

As a result, Alexander Arrol was sentenced to 10 months in prison.

His sentence was reduced from an initial one-year term after he admitted guilt, reflecting some level of remorse or cooperation.

The case has garnered significant media attention and has been reported in The Gazette on May 28, 2017, emphasizing the severity of the crime and the importance of animal welfare laws in Scotland.

Alexander Arrol admitted he exposed his penis on September 13, 2024 at Houston Square in Johnstone.

On the same date, the 39-year-old admitted he caused “fear or alarm” in Johnstone’s Church Street when he approached a 13-year-old girl and attempted to communicate with her before urinating.

Arrol, of Sycamore Avenue, thereafter approached and pursued three young girls.

Defence agent Robert Mitchell told the court Arrol, who appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court from custody, would “very much like to put this case behind him.” He explained that the consequences have been very serious: Arrol had to give up his accommodation, has been the victim of assaults, was remanded on another matter, and spent a day in prison before being assaulted again and moved into segregation.

He was under the influence of substances at the time of the offence, stemming from a tragic childhood, and deeply regrets his actions.

Sheriff Amel Elfallah stated: “We seem to have gone backwards since the first time I saw you on this matter.

In the circumstances, there is no alternative but a custodial sentence.” Arrol was jailed for 80 days, reduced from 90, and was not placed on the sex offender’s register as there was no significant sexual element.
