ALEX DREW FROM BURTON-UPON-TRENT SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN STAFFORD
In August 2014, a man from Burton-upon-Trent named Alex Drew was sentenced to a prison term of four years and eight months after he pleaded guilty to multiple serious sex offences involving four young children. The court proceedings took place at Stafford Crown Court, where Drew admitted to a total of 15 counts related to child sexual abuse.According to reports, Drew, aged 29 and residing on Curzon Street in Burton-upon-Trent, was arrested following an investigation initiated by Staffordshire Police. The police had received a report concerning suspicious online activity linked to Drew, which prompted a detailed inquiry into his online behavior and activities.
The charges against Drew included three counts of encouraging or causing a girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, as well as three similar counts involving a girl aged between 13 and 15. Additionally, he faced nine counts of creating and distributing indecent images of children. These offences highlight the severity of his actions and the danger posed to the victims involved.
As part of his sentencing, Drew was also placed on the sex offenders register, a measure intended to monitor and restrict his activities following his release from prison. The case drew attention to the exploitation of vulnerable young girls, with authorities emphasizing the manipulative tactics used by Drew to prey on his victims.
Detective Inspector Becky Cawkwell commented on the case, stating, “Drew preyed on and exploited vulnerable young girls. They believed they were talking online to another girl when in fact they were talking to a man. His actions have had a significant impact on the lives of his four young victims, and their bravery in speaking out is to be applauded.”
This case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and protect minors from predators who seek to exploit their innocence through digital platforms.
