ALCWYN THOMAS SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR MURDERING VICTORIA THOMAS IN CARDIFF

In a tragic incident that shocked the community of Cardiff, a man named Alcwyn Thomas has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Victoria Thomas, a dedicated mother of two. The crime took place on the evening of 19 August 2024, within the confines of their shared residence on Caerphilly Road, Birchgrove. According to reports, Alcwyn Thomas, aged 44, committed the act after a day marked by heavy drinking and drug use. Witnesses and police investigations revealed that he had consumed approximately 16 pints of alcohol and had taken cocaine prior to the incident.

Victoria Thomas, aged 45, was found deceased in an upstairs spare bedroom of their home. The circumstances of her death indicated a violent struggle, and her body was discovered after police arrived at the scene. Alcwyn was found asleep in the main bedroom when officers entered the property, suggesting he had remained there following the incident.

During the subsequent trial at Cardiff Crown Court, Alcwyn Thomas admitted to the charge of manslaughter but denied outright murder. He claimed that Victoria’s death was the result of a ‘sex act gone wrong,’ specifically during an act of erotic asphyxiation. Despite his plea for manslaughter, the jury found him guilty of murder, recognizing the severity of his actions.

On 24 April 2025, Alcwyn Thomas was formally sentenced to life imprisonment. The court set a minimum term of 20 years before he could be considered for parole, reflecting the gravity of the crime and the impact on Victoria’s family and the local community.

Evidence presented during the trial included CCTV footage capturing the couple earlier that evening. The footage showed Alcwyn and Victoria visiting a local pub and a bingo hall with family members. Witnesses described Alcwyn’s mood as notably argumentative during the outing, and it was confirmed that he had taken cocaine before returning home with Victoria. In a distressing turn, Alcwyn sent a message to his sisters stating, “Sorry I done something so bad,” but he did not attempt to seek help or provide aid to Victoria after the incident. Instead, he chose to go to sleep, leaving her in a critical condition that ultimately led to her death.
