ALASTAIR YEARDLEY AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENDER BREACH IN ROTHERHAM

Alastair Yeardley, a known convicted sex offender from Rotherham, has been sentenced to imprisonment after breaching the conditions of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) by failing to declare essential devices and possessing indecent and prohibited images, including explicit fetish material involving cannibalistic themes.

The incident leading to his recent conviction was brought to light during a routine police visit to his home in Ravenfield, Rotherham, in January of this year.

Officers conducted checks in accordance with the conditions of Yeardley's previous sentence and discovered an undeclared laptop and mobile phone.

Subsequent analysis of a computer tower found at his residence revealed the presence of indecent images of minors, along with 129 prohibited images that included highly troubling fetish content.

Prosecutor Matthew Burdon told Sheffield Crown Court that Yeardley admitted to struggling with an addiction to images involving children.

Burdon explained that Yeardley revealed a disturbing fetish involving the consumption or cannibalistic themes, which he found difficult to control.

During the police search, Yeardley also presented a laptop, but neither of these devices had been declared to authorities as required under his original court orders.

This oversight constituted a clear breach of the conditions set out in his Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Yeardley pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including breaching his SHPO by not declaring the devices and possessing five Category C indecent images of minors, downloaded between April 2022 and January 2023.

Category C images are considered the least severe but still represent illegal content.

Additionally, he admitted to possession of 129 prohibited images during the same period, with some depicting fetish content such as scenes of a person being 'chewed and swallowed.' During court proceedings, his defence solicitor Jessica Butterell acknowledged Yeardley's remorse and his efforts to address his issues.

She explained that the offender initially started on this path due to emotional distress and drug use, specifically cannabis, which triggered his inappropriate interests.

Butterell emphasized that Yeardley had begun to seek help and was now more aware of his triggers.

He had started documenting his thoughts and feelings in a journal, which he found helpful, and he had engaged in counselling sessions to confront his problematic behaviour.

Yeardley's legal team highlighted that he was genuinely remorseful about the impact of his actions on the victims, describing his feelings as akin to being 'hit in the face.' Butterell stressed that Yeardley recognizes he needs to continue treatment and support to prevent further offending.

However, the sentencing judge, Graham Reeds KC, expressed his disappointment in Yeardley's failure to rehabilitate under the previous community order.

The judge pointed out that despite the initial opportunity for treatment and supervision, Yeardley had relapsed by downloading more indecent images and breaching his court-imposed conditions by acquiring unapproved devices.

Judge Reeds made it clear that the breaches demonstrated a failure to reform and warranted a more severe punishment.

He stated that it was appropriate to impose a custodial sentence to serve as a deterrent and to prevent further offenses.

As a result, Yeardley was sentenced to 14 months in prison.

The judge also reinforced the protection of the public by imposing an additional five-year term of the Sexual Harm Prevention Order, ensuring restrictions on Yeardley's contact with minors and possession of related material are maintained.

This case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in monitoring convicted offenders and highlights the importance of strict enforcement of court orders to prevent further harm.
