ALASTAIR FAY FROM PRESTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES
Alastair Fay, a 31-year-old IT manager based in Preston, has been sentenced in connection with the possession of a significant number of indecent images of children. The court heard that Fay was found to have accumulated over 12,000 such images, which he stored on both his personal and work devices.
Despite his claims that his collection was part of research into cybercrime, the court condemned his actions, highlighting the highly offensive nature of the material he viewed.
Fay’s defense argued that he was suffering from mental health issues, including undiagnosed bipolar disorder, which he claimed contributed to his behavior.
However, the court made it clear that the primary concern was the potential danger his actions posed to children and the wider public safety.
The judge emphasized that such material is not only illegal but also deeply harmful, and that possession of such images reflects a serious breach of societal norms and legal boundaries.
As part of his sentence, Fay received a suspended one-year prison term, meaning he will not serve time in custody unless he breaches certain conditions.
Additionally, he was ordered to undergo a five-year program of internet sex offender treatment, aimed at addressing his behavior and preventing future offenses.
The court’s decision underscores the importance of safeguarding children and maintaining public safety in the face of such disturbing offenses.
