ALASDAIR EWEN FROM ABERDEEN AND COVE BAY ESCAPES JAIL AFTER REPEATED CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES
In a recent court hearing held at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, former Royal Air Force serviceman Alasdair Ewen, aged 38, faced sentencing after admitting to serious charges related to the possession and distribution of indecent images of children. The case drew significant attention due to Ewen's prior criminal history and the nature of the offenses.Alasdair Ewen was found to have taken, permitted to be taken, or created indecent photographs of minors at two different addresses located in Deemount Road, Aberdeen, and Loirston Avenue, Cove Bay. These locations are both within the Aberdeen area, highlighting the geographical spread of his offending behavior. The court also heard that Ewen had violated bail conditions by using the internet, which was part of the evidence presented against him.
During the sentencing, the judge opted for a community-based punishment rather than incarceration. Ewen was sentenced to a community payback order that will last for three years. As part of his rehabilitation, he is required to participate in the community sex offenders’ programme, which aims to address his behavior and prevent future offenses. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, emphasizing the court’s focus on community service and accountability.
This case is not Ewen’s first encounter with the justice system concerning similar offenses. Approximately five years prior, he was convicted at Elgin Sheriff Court for possessing a significant number of indecent images. At that time, he was fined £2,000 and placed on the sex offenders’ register for a period of five years after admitting to downloading 238 indecent images and possessing an additional 47 images stored on floppy disks. The recurrence of his offenses underscores ongoing concerns about his conduct and the effectiveness of previous sanctions.
The court’s decision to avoid a custodial sentence in this instance reflects a complex assessment of Ewen’s circumstances, but the case remains a stark reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding child exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and judicial oversight.
