ALAN WOLTEN FROM WIDNES SENTENCED FOR PREDATORY PAEDOPHILIA IN LIVERPOOL COURT

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Widnes and the wider Liverpool area, Alan Wolten, an 81-year-old man, was convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of two young boys. The court proceedings, held at Liverpool Crown Court, revealed the disturbing details of Wolten’s predatory behavior and the devastating impact on his victims.

According to court reports, Wolten systematically targeted one of his victims, a boy who was only 12 years old at the time of the assault. The abuse occurred when the victim was in his 40s, indicating that Wolten’s predatory actions spanned many years. The court heard that Wolten subjected this young boy to physical violence, hitting him with a belt, and forcing him to perform sexual acts that were both sickening and traumatic. The trauma inflicted on the victim was described as severe, with the court emphasizing the long-lasting psychological scars left behind.

In addition to the first victim, Wolten also targeted a second boy, aged 15. This incident took place in the confined space of a car, where Wolten touched the boy inappropriately while three other adults were present, making the act even more disturbing due to the presence of witnesses. The court was told that Wolten’s actions were calculated and predatory, aimed at exploiting vulnerable young boys.

During the trial, it was revealed that Wolten suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, which the court acknowledged as giving him a “diminished life expectancy.” His elderly wife is also suffering from terminal cancer, adding a layer of tragedy to the case. Despite his health issues, Wolten denied all allegations, claiming that his victims were lying and that he was innocent of the charges brought against him.

After a five-day trial, the jury unanimously found Wolten guilty of rape and seven counts of indecent assault. The judge, David Aubrey, QC, sentenced him to 14 years in prison, with an additional year on license. The judge noted that Wolten’s age and health were taken into account, stating, “I do take into account your life expectancy. However, it may well be in consequence of the sentence this court passes upon you, and I do have regard to this fact, that you will die in prison. But that in the court’s judgement is not a matter for this court, it is a matter for the authorities.”

Wolten, who resides at Bridewell Court, Peel House Lane, Widnes, appeared in court using a crutch to stand. The first victim was visibly distressed, sobbing in court, while Wolten showed no emotion as he was led away to begin his sentence. The court also ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. Wolten’s imprisonment means he will serve at least seven years before being eligible for parole, but he is unlikely to be released before the age of 95 unless deemed no longer a risk by the parole board.
