ALAN WATERS SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS IN PRISON IN HAMPSHIRE FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILDREN
A man named Alan Waters has been sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually abusing four boys.The 73-year-old, born on August 7, 1948, and residing at Cador Drive, Fareham, Hampshire, received his sentence on Thursday, October 28, at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
The court heard that between 1971 and 1981, Waters engaged in sexual abuse of four boys who were sea cadets during that period.
All four victims were between 11 and 15 years old at the time of the offences.
Waters exploited his position of authority as a sea cadet instructor on various occasions over the ten-year span, using times when he was alone with the victims and when they were particularly vulnerable to commit the assaults.
The first report of abuse was made in 2006, but at that time, Waters was incarcerated in India for child sex offences, and therefore, no further action was taken regarding that allegation.
A second complaint emerged in 2016, which led to a police investigation.
Then, in 2017, another victim came forward, prompting police to contact this new complainant.
Subsequently, a fourth victim was identified, and all cases were linked to Waters.
The victims provided detailed accounts of the incidents that occurred during the specified period.
Detective Sergeant Phil McElhone, the lead investigator, expressed his gratitude: “I would firstly like to thank the complainants for coming forward and supporting the investigation and assisting us in achieving justice against this prolific offender.” He added, “I can only hope that Waters’ sentencing has brought some closure to the victims and that their courage in speaking up will encourage others who have suffered abuse of any types current or historic, to do the same.”
