ALAN TURNER FROM DENTON AND BARMOUTH SENTENCED FOR DECADES-OLD SCHOOL PERVERSION

In a case that spanned over three decades, Alan Turner, a 70-year-old former teacher from Denton, Manchester, has been sentenced to three years in prison for his long-standing history of sexual abuse against young boys. The conviction came after a victim, now a 49-year-old father of three, finally confronted Turner in a dramatic development that uncovered the extent of his predatory behavior.

Turner, who previously resided in Denton, was finally located by law enforcement following the victim’s efforts to seek justice. The victim, who was only 13 years old at the time of the abuse, recounted how he had kept the traumatic experience bottled up for years until he decided to confront his abuser. During the confrontation, Turner, overwhelmed by guilt and shame, reportedly put his head in his hands and admitted, “I thought I’d put it all behind me.”

Further investigations by police revealed that Turner’s misconduct was not limited to just one victim. Authorities uncovered evidence that he had also abused a second boy, who was a former pupil at the school where Turner taught. The investigation also led to the discovery of 48 indecent photographs of children at Turner’s new residence in Barmouth, North Wales, raising serious concerns about his ongoing predatory tendencies.

Turner’s pattern of abuse was characterized by manipulation and exploitation. It was reported that he believed his victims were so deeply traumatized that they would never come forward or reveal his secret. This belief appeared to have emboldened him to continue his misconduct, which ultimately forced the victims to relive their painful experiences during the court proceedings.

Known for teaching music and photography, Turner was nicknamed “Ten-bob Turner” by students, a moniker that referenced his practice of giving children money before the abuse took place. His actions, which spanned many years, finally caught up with him when he was charged and brought to trial at Manchester Crown Court.

During the trial, the jury took less than an hour to convict Turner on six counts of indecent assault on a male and two charges of gross indecency with a child. It was also revealed that he had previously pleaded guilty to gross indecency with a child and possession of indecent images of children. The court sentenced him to serve three years in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life.

Judge Adrian Smith addressed Turner directly, stating, “Both your victims were very vulnerable boys from difficult homes. Having gained their loyalty and trust, you exploited them for your own sexual purposes.” As Turner was led away to the cells, the first victim, who was abused between 1965 and 1967, broke down in tears. He recounted how the abuse had haunted him for years and how he eventually tracked Turner down to Wales to confront him.

He described his emotional reaction upon seeing Turner’s home, saying, “When he opened the door I saw a train set, the same thing he used to lure me and other boys.” This chilling detail underscored the manipulative tactics Turner employed to prey on vulnerable children, leaving a lasting impact that spanned decades.
