ALAN PIDD OF HULL SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEENAGER

In a case that has shocked the community of Hull, a retired serviceman named Alan William Pidd has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of serious sexual offenses involving a teenage girl. The incident, which took place in East Hull, culminated in Pidd's conviction at Hull Crown Court, where the jury deliberated extensively before reaching their verdict.

Alan Pidd, aged 59 at the time of sentencing, had previously served in the Royal Air Force from 1969 until 1991. Despite his military background, the court heard that he had no prior criminal record. The charges against him included two counts of sexual abuse related to the girl when she was 15 years old, and a count of rape when she had turned 16. Pidd admitted to having sexual relations with the girl, but he maintained that these encounters only occurred after she had reached the age of consent and that she had willingly participated.

However, the jury rejected Pidd’s account, finding insufficient evidence to support his claims of consent and believing instead that the acts were non-consensual. The court also acquitted him of four additional counts of sexual abuse involving the same girl, indicating that the evidence did not support those charges.

The case came to light after the girl reported the abuse in March of the same year, revealing that she had been raped by Pidd. Throughout the trial, Pidd attempted to justify his actions by claiming that the girl had initiated the encounters and had tried to lure him into these acts. He stated, “I thought after the first time this was not going to stop until she wanted it to stop. I believe she was using me, trying to lure me.”

Judge John Swanson, presiding over the case, sentenced Pidd to 11 years in prison, emphasizing the court’s stance on the severity of the crimes. The judge remarked, “The jury found that there was no consent,” underscoring the gravity of the offenses.

In addition to the prison sentence, Pidd was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life and was disqualified from working with children, reflecting the court’s concern for public safety. Furthermore, a sexual offences prevention order was issued, which prohibits him from having any contact with his victim, aiming to prevent further harm and ensure her protection.
