ALAN MELVILLE'S SHAMEFUL REIGN IN PEMBROKE DOCK: EXPOSES HIMSELF TO CHILDREN DESPITE PRIOR CONVICTIONS
In a disturbing series of events that have shocked the community of Pembroke Dock, Alan Melville, a 61-year-old man with a long history of sexual offenses, has once again demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of children. Melville, who was released early from a 12-year prison sentence imposed in 2012 for the rape of a child, has continued to pose a significant threat to the public despite his criminal past.In September of this year, alarming reports emerged from residents of Pembroke Dock, specifically from the area around Bush Street. A man and two young sisters witnessed Melville engaging in a sexual act within the confines of his flat’s kitchen window. The witnesses described the scene as highly inappropriate and distressing, raising immediate concerns about Melville’s ongoing predatory behavior.
Following these incidents, Melville was charged with two counts of indecent exposure. During his court appearance, he pleaded guilty to both charges and was subsequently sentenced to a total of 15 months in prison. However, the court proceedings revealed a more troubling aspect of Melville’s situation. It was disclosed that he had already been recalled to prison to serve the remainder of his original sentence, which means he will remain incarcerated beyond the duration of his current sentence.
Prosecutor Ian Wright provided further details about the incidents. On September 20, a father was driving his daughter home from school when she confided in him that she had seen a naked man standing in the kitchen window of Melville’s flat. The very next day, the same father took his second daughter to school and left her in his van while he stopped at a local newsagent. Upon returning, he found his daughter visibly upset and crying, and she revealed that she had seen Melville engaged in a sexual act while naked.
Concerned and alarmed, the father contacted the police immediately. When officers arrived at the scene, they were approached by another man who reported having seen Melville naked and exposing himself the previous day. The police investigation uncovered that Melville had taken a photograph of himself naked from the waist down just half an hour before their arrival, further confirming his inappropriate behavior.
Judge Paul Thomas, who previously sentenced Melville in 2012, presided over the recent case. In his remarks, the judge described Melville as an “unreformed, unrepentant sexual offender and paedophile who continues to be a risk.” The judge expressed concern over Melville’s ongoing threat to the community and emphasized that he did not know when Melville might be released again, as that decision was beyond his authority. Nonetheless, Judge Thomas made it clear that he hoped the authorities would consider Melville’s continued dangerousness and not release him prematurely.
During the court proceedings, Judge Thomas also addressed the parents of the young girls involved, explaining that his sentencing powers were limited to the maximum penalties available for the offences of exposure. Despite the conviction, Melville remains registered with the police as a sex offender, a status that underscores the severity of his criminal history.
To further restrict Melville’s activities and prevent future incidents, Judge Thomas issued a sexual harm prevention order. This order imposes strict limitations on Melville’s movements and interactions, especially after his eventual release from custody, in an effort to protect the community from his predatory tendencies.
