Alan Langmuir Child Sexual Abuser in Leith

A man from Edinburgh who harbored a desire for children in tights has been placed on the sex offenders register after sending malicious messages to online profiles he thought belonged to two school-age girls.

Alan Langmuir communicated with profiles named ‘12-year-old Megan’ and ‘14-year-old Mollie’ via Facebook Messenger over a span of three months last year, making sexually explicit requests.

He asked these so-called children to send images of themselves in tights, inquired about their school uniforms, shared links to pornographic sites, and frequently commented on their appearance, calling them “pretty” and “beautiful.” Langmuir was identified after he asked one profile to send tights to his home and posted his address on the messaging app.

He was subsequently approached at his residence in Leith by paedophile hunters after it was discovered he had also been communicating with two adult decoys between August and October of the previous year.

This operation was live-streamed on the Scotland Child Protection Team Against Sexual Abuse Facebook page, obtaining over 32,000 views.

On Friday, Langmuir appeared before Edinburgh Sheriff Court to be sentenced, having pleaded guilty to attempting to communicate indecently with two children and to sending a pornographic image at a previous hearing.

His solicitor, Paul Smith, stated that Langmuir was employed as a carer at the time but was suspended following his arrest and was dismissed in January.

Smith added that his client appeared somewhat isolated and struggled with alcohol.

The sheriff, Christopher Dickson, emphasized the gravity of the offenses and, considering the circumstances, opted for a community punishment order rather than jail time.

Langmuir was registered as a sex offender, placed under supervision for 18 months, and ordered to complete 190 hours of unpaid work.

He is also barred from contacting minors under 16 and faces significant internet access restrictions.
