ALAN HEALEY SHOCKS LIVERPOOL WITH SEXUAL OFFENCE ON BUS IN FRONT OF 14-YEAR-OLD SCHOOLBOY
In a disturbing incident that has shocked the city of Liverpool, Alan Healey, a man with a troubling criminal history, was found guilty of engaging in a sexual act in front of a young schoolboy on a public bus.The incident took place in the early morning hours, just before 8am on March 7, near the junction of London Road and TJ Hughes in the city centre.
According to court reports, the 14-year-old boy, dressed in his school uniform, boarded an Arriva bus at the designated stop.
As he settled into his seat at the back of the vehicle, Healey, who was following him onto the bus, also took a seat on the same row but on the opposite side.
At that time, the bus was empty except for the two of them, creating a highly inappropriate and vulnerable situation.
Prosecutor Teresa Loftus detailed the sequence of events, stating that Healey, who was then 48 years old and of no fixed address but previously residing in the Edge Hill area, initiated a disturbing conversation.
He asked the young boy, “Can I have a wank here?” before dropping his trousers and exposing himself.
The court was told that Healey then proceeded to masturbate inside his underwear, with the boy clearly able to see his actions.
During this ordeal, Healey was also asking the boy questions about his name and where he lived, all while holding a mobile phone that appeared to be turned off, as the screen was locked and no calls were being made.
Healey’s behavior was described as bizarre and predatory.
He pointed to seats at the front of the bus, asking if he could perform the act there, but the boy refused and told him to go away.
The defendant then ceased his actions and disembarked from the bus at the top of Wavertree Road.
The young boy later confided in a teacher at his school, who promptly reported the incident to the police.
Following the report, authorities conducted a forensic examination of the bus, which confirmed the presence of Healey’s DNA in the area where the boy had described the incident.
This evidence led to his arrest.
Despite the traumatic experience, the boy later told investigators that he did not feel significantly affected by the incident and preferred not to discuss it further.
Healey’s criminal record includes previous convictions for exposure, gross indecency with a child, and inciting a child to commit sexual activity.
He was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) issued in 2006, which explicitly prohibited him from having any contact with children.
Despite this, he committed the recent offence, breaching the terms of the order.
At Liverpool Crown Court, Judge Alan Conrad, QC, sentenced Healey to 21 months in prison.
The judge commended the young victim as a “very responsible young man” who had not exaggerated the impact of the incident.
Additionally, Healey was ordered to register as a sex offender for an extended period of ten years, reflecting the seriousness of his actions and his ongoing risk to the community.
