December 2015 Child rapist sentenced to 15 years A Chingford Odd job man who undertook local house repairs and gardening jobs, has been jailed for 15 years for depraved sex attacks against children. Perverted Alan George Griffiths (66), of Dell Close, Chingford, was found guilty of multiple child sexual abuse charges at Snaresbrook Crown court. The charges included five counts of indecent assault against a child and three counts of rape against a child. The court heard that the father of four had started sexually assaulting one of the youngsters when she was aged just 11 years old, back in 1983.
The abuse continued over a six-year period, leading to the child being raped on numerous occasions from the age of 14. Alan Griffiths horrific crimes only came to light when the victim reported him to the police in 2014. She had confided in her mother at the age of 25, but her mother refused to believe her. Griffiths, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely. He was also disqualified from working with children for life. In an impact statement given to us by one of his victims, she said that Griffiths had destroyed six years of her childhood and that she had spent these years hiding the abuse to protect other family members feelings. She said: ”I did contemplate telling a teacher, but I feared I wouldn’t be believed” She went on to tell us: “Since the trial my mother has told several people that I am a liar and my abuser had written (from prison) to several family members telling them that I need to tell the truth.” “I thought that once he was found guilty, my mother would see that I had never lied to her, but it seems she will never believe me.” “I try everyday to put the thoughts of what he did to me behind me and lock them in a box in my mind.” “I had thought that once the trial was over I would be able to move on and put this behind me, but it isn’t that simple”
