ALAN DAY JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN BEVERLEY: HORRIFIC OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS REVEALED

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Beverley, Alan Day, aged 79, has been sentenced to prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against three young girls. The offences, which spanned from 1985 to 2002, came to light after one of his victims, now an adult, confided in her partner about the abuse she endured during her childhood.

Alan Day, a resident of Harvest Court in Beverley, appeared before Hull Crown Court where he was convicted of multiple charges related to historic sexual abuse. The court heard that he had groomed his victims over a period of years, manipulating and exploiting their innocence for his own depraved purposes. Due to legal restrictions, the identities of the victims remain confidential, but the court was informed that one of the girls was only five years old when the abuse began.

Prosecutor David Gordon detailed the disturbing nature of the crimes, revealing that one of the victims described how Day made her feel like a prostitute by performing sexual acts on her and then giving her money. This testimony underscored the manipulative tactics he employed to control and exploit his young victims. Additionally, it was disclosed that Day attempted to shift blame onto one of the victims, suggesting she was responsible for the abuse, a tactic often used by offenders to evade accountability.

Day pleaded guilty to five sample charges of indecent assault and indecency with a child. An additional charge of indecency was left on the file but was not prosecuted, indicating that the evidence was sufficient for conviction on the charges he admitted. The revelations about his crimes emerged after one of his victims, now an adult, disclosed her experiences to her partner, prompting the investigation that led to his arrest and subsequent conviction.

Further details revealed that Alan Day had previously visited local schools in Beverley, where he would read poetry he had written. This seemingly innocent activity was contrasted sharply with his criminal actions, highlighting the deceptive facade he maintained in the community.

During the sentencing hearing, Day’s defense barrister, Felicity Davies, argued that her client was now a frail man suffering from poor health. She emphasized that any prison sentence would have a severe impact on him and pointed out that he posed a low risk of reoffending. She also noted that he would lose his house if jailed, which she suggested was a significant consequence.

However, Judge John Swanson was unequivocal in his judgment, stating that the severity of the offences warranted a custodial sentence. He emphasized the importance of marking such serious crimes with appropriate punishment, declaring, “For offences of this kind, there must clearly be a prison sentence.”

As part of his sentence, Alan Day was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and potential risk to the community. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of sexual abuse and the importance of justice for victims, especially in close-knit communities like Beverley.
