GALASHIELS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ASSAULT AND STRANGULATION
January 2026: A GALASHIELS man who attempted to strangle his partner has been fined at Selkirk Sheriff Court.Alan Cook, 35, pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman on December 15 last year by throwing the woman onto a sofa and placing his hand around her neck.
The court was told he had been of good behaviour during a year-long period of deferred sentence.
A victim surcharge was added to the fine.
December 2025: A Galashiels man named Alan Cook, aged 34, has pleaded guilty to assaulting his partner at a house in Galashiels on December 15.
The court heard that Cook threw the woman onto a sofa and then placed his hand around her throat, applying pressure to her neck.
heriff Peter Paterson described the case as serious, noting that Cook's actions included an attempted strangulation.
He added that Cook was fortunate not to face charges on indictment.
The court granted Cook bail to an address in the Borders and advised him to avoid alcohol.
The case is scheduled to be recalled at Selkirk Sheriff Court on January 20.
