ALAN BROWN FROM COWDENBEATH INVOLVED IN DOMESTIC ABUSE INCIDENT IN DUNDEE

A woman from Cowdenbeath was subjected to a series of heinous acts of domestic abuse by her former partner, Alan Brown, a 35-year-old man residing on Ballindean Place in Dundee. The disturbing events unfolded over a period from May 1 to December 10 of the previous year, during which Brown engaged in a pattern of aggressive and controlling behavior towards his ex-partner.

Brown appeared before Dunfermline Sheriff Court to face charges related to his conduct. It was confirmed that he admitted to a series of abusive actions carried out during their seven-month relationship, which coincided with the lockdown period. The court heard that Brown repeatedly called his ex-partner, often shouting and swearing at her. His demands for her to be at home, coupled with derogatory comments about her appearance, created a hostile environment. He also accused her of infidelity, ridiculed her sexual performance, and made offensive remarks about her genitalia.

In addition to verbal abuse, Brown's violence was physical and aggressive. He threw a bottle at her and attempted to isolate her from her friends, exerting control over her social interactions. His aggressive demeanor was evident when he shouted in her face, creating a threatening atmosphere. These actions were described by the court as a deplorable course of conduct that caused significant distress to his victim.

Brown’s defense solicitor, Amy Fox, provided context for his behavior, explaining that her client suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of his service in Afghanistan with the Black Watch regiment. She also noted that he has worked as a prison officer and is currently employed as a hospital porter. Ms. Fox expressed remorse on his behalf, stating that he is ashamed of his actions.

Judge Francis Gill addressed the court, condemning Brown’s conduct as “deplorable” and emphasizing the seriousness of his actions. As part of the sentence, Brown was ordered to complete a community payback order involving 200 hours of unpaid work and was placed under 18 months of supervision. Additionally, a three-year non-harassment order was issued to prevent any further contact or intimidation of his former partner, aiming to protect her from future harm.
