BATLEY MAN ALAN BIRD SENTENCED FOR 21-YEAR-OLD SON'S MURDER IN DEWSBURY AND LEEDS
In a case that has spanned over two decades, Alan Bird, a 48-year-old man from Batley, has been convicted and sentenced for the murder of his two-year-old son, Lewis Turner. The tragic events unfolded at their family home in Dewsbury in September 2001, where Bird inflicted fatal injuries that would ultimately lead to his son's death nearly 18 years later.According to court records, Bird, who was working as an abattoir manager, deliberately caused severe and irreversible brain damage to Lewis by suffocating him. The attack left the young boy with profound disabilities, including cerebral palsy, impaired speech, hearing, and vision, and necessitated feeding through a tube. The injuries sustained during the assault were so severe that Lewis's health deteriorated over the years, culminating in his death in July 2019 at his adoptive parents' residence in Leeds.
