ALAN BATTYE, ROTHERHAM CHILD SEX PREDATOR, CAUGHT BY PAEDO HUNTERS IN DERBYSHIRE
In March 2021, a disturbing case unfolded involving Alan Battye, a known child sex offender from Rotherham, who was ultimately apprehended by vigilant paedophile hunters in Derbyshire. The incident began when Battye engaged in a series of conversations with an individual he believed was a 14-year-old boy.
In reality, this individual was part of the Children’s Guardians group operating under a fake profile designed to catch predators.
Over the course of two days, Battye made multiple contact attempts, during which he made revolting suggestions and sent explicit images to the supposed minor.
The Sheffield Crown Court heard that Battye urged the young person to perform sexual acts on himself, demonstrating a clear intent to exploit and harm.
The conversations, which spanned five exchanges on a chat website, culminated in Battye arranging to meet the boy at a McDonald's restaurant in Alfreton, Derbyshire.
The predator’s plans were thwarted when he arrived at the designated location and was confronted by the paedophile hunters, who then handed him over to the police authorities.
Judge Jeremy Richardson, the Recorder of Sheffield, referenced a pre-sentence report that described Battye as a “dangerous offender.” The report emphasized that Battye, who was already serving time for previous child sex offences, continued to pose a significant threat to children under the age of 16.
The court’s assessment highlighted the ongoing risk Battye represented, underscoring the seriousness of his predatory behavior and the potential for future harm.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of Battye’s criminal history.
Back in January 2019, Battye, then aged 56 and a resident of Doncaster Road, Rotherham, was sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to multiple child sexual offences involving a young boy.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
Battye appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday, January 29, to receive his sentence after pleading guilty to 14 charges, including sexual activity with a child and making indecent images of children.
The victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, was a minor at the time of the offences.
It was revealed that Battye was employed as a mathematics teacher at Winterhill Secondary School in Rotherham.
The school publicly stated that the offences had no connection to the institution itself.
Battye resigned from his teaching position in 2016 when the allegations surfaced.
The criminal activities came to light after Derbyshire Police shared information with South Yorkshire authorities, following concerns raised by someone close to the victim.
Authorities then identified Battye, arrested him, and seized electronic devices that contained indecent images of children, further confirming his predatory behavior.
His case underscores the ongoing threat posed by individuals like Battye, who continue to exploit and harm vulnerable minors despite previous convictions.
