ALAM NAYLOR SENTENCED IN THANET FOR SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULT AND STD CASE
In March 2018, a disturbing case unfolded involving Alam Naylor, a 35-year-old man from Minster, Thanet, Kent, who committed a heinous sexual assault on a teenage girl. The incident left the young victim not only traumatized but also suffering from a sexually transmitted disease that could have lifelong implications for her health.According to court proceedings, Naylor attacked the teenage girl after she had been drinking vodka shots. The assault occurred during a night when the victim had gone to sleep and was unexpectedly awakened by Naylor’s violent actions. She was heard shouting, "What are you doing?" as she struggled to comprehend the assault. Despite her desperate pleas for him to stop, Naylor, who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, continued his attack without regard for her protests.
During the trial at Canterbury Crown Court, prosecutor Bridget Todd detailed how Naylor ignored the victim’s cries for help. She recounted that Naylor, who had been drinking heavily and taking drugs, refused to cease his assault even as the girl called out for him to stop. The victim’s distress escalated as she desperately searched for her phone in an attempt to call for help, but Naylor refused to assist her. In her desperation, she managed to borrow a mobile phone from a passerby to alert authorities about her ordeal.
The aftermath of the attack was equally traumatic for the young girl. She was subjected to a humiliating medical examination, which confirmed the presence of a sexually transmitted disease. The diagnosis added a further layer of humiliation and emotional distress, and the victim was reported to have developed serious psychological issues, including suicidal thoughts, as a result of her experience.
Judge James O’Mahony addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of Naylor’s actions. He highlighted that Naylor’s intoxication and drug use contributed to the gravity of the offences. The judge described the case as one of the most serious he had encountered, stating, “Your offences are as grave as grave can be.”
In sentencing, Judge O’Mahony sentenced Alam Naylor to 13 and a half years in prison, with an additional four years on licence to follow upon his release. The court made it clear that Naylor’s conduct was reprehensible and warranted a lengthy custodial sentence to reflect the seriousness of his crimes and to protect the community from further harm.
