MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR BURNING EX-WIFE TO DEATH IN STIRLING SALON
Ahmad Yazdanparast, aged 61, was found guilty of murdering his ex-wife, Ahdieh Khayatzadeh, by setting her on fire in Stirling after pouring petrol over her.The incident took place in October, during which Ms Khayatzadeh sustained burns covering approximately 95% of her body.
Before passing away, she informed emergency responders that Yazdanparast had committed the act because she had divorced him.
The presiding judge, Lady Wise, characterized the assault as both premeditated and ruthless, emphasizing that Yazdanparast planned her murder in a cruel manner.
Ms Khayatzadeh was a well-loved individual and a caring mother, and the judge highlighted that her loss left her children without her presence.
Yazdanparast received a life sentence with a minimum term of 19 years before being eligible for parole.
Throughout the trial, he denied involvement, shouting, "I am not a killer, Lady Wise," as he was taken away by authorities.
Evidence from CCTV footage revealed him purchasing petrol and entering her salon prior to the fire.
Residues of petrol were discovered on her clothing and within the salon's basement, while firefighters described her injuries as “horrendous,” although she was still conscious upon rescue.
It was also noted that Yazdanparast had prior convictions for assaulting his wife and had been contacted by police about threats to kill her and to pour acid on her.
The case underscores issues related to domestic violence and deliberate murder.
