ROTHERHAM MAN AFZAAL AHMED CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SOUTH YORKSHIRE
In December 2020, the Sheffield Crown Court heard a disturbing case involving Afzaal Ahmed, a 33-year-old resident of Lister Street in Rotherham, who was found to possess a significant collection of indecent images of children.The court was informed that Ahmed had in his possession a total of 17 images categorized into different levels of severity, with 12 classified as Category A, which is considered the most serious, four as Category B, and one as Category C.
Prosecutor Louise Reevell detailed the circumstances of the arrest, stating that Ahmed was taken into custody at his home on October 21, 2019.
The police had acted on intelligence suggesting that illegal material might be stored at his residence.
During the search, officers recovered a mobile phone that contained the illicit images.
Among these were eleven movies embedded within the 12 Category A images, indicating a disturbing level of material.
Further examination of the device revealed an extreme pornographic image depicting two adult females engaged in sexual activity with a horse, an act that is illegal and considered highly disturbing.
The police investigation confirmed that the images and videos were downloaded during a specific period from October 16 to October 22, 2019.
Ahmed pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including making indecent images at various levels and possessing an extreme pornographic image, all within the same week.
His admission also covered the possession of the extreme material during that period.
During the sentencing hearing, Mohammed Qazi, representing the defense, emphasized that the offending was limited to activity over a single week and involved a relatively small number of images on a mobile device.
He also highlighted the potential social stigma Ahmed would face within his community in Rotherham due to these offenses.
However, the presiding judge, Recorder Andrew Haslam, addressed the serious nature of the crimes.
He pointed out that some of the children depicted in the images were as young as five years old.
The judge condemned individuals like Ahmed who possess such material, as it fuels the exploitation and suffering of vulnerable children.
He expressed his deep concern about the distress caused to victims and the broader implications of such offenses.
Despite the gravity of the crimes, Recorder Haslam acknowledged that there was a significant chance for rehabilitation.
As part of his sentence, Ahmed was ordered to complete a two-year community order, which includes a 40-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.
Additionally, he was placed on the Sex Offender Register and subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years, aiming to prevent any future offending behavior.
