AFTAB AHMED FROM FENHAM SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL TEENAGE GIRL ATTACK IN NEWCASTLE'S NUNS MOOR PARK

In August 2018, a disturbing case unfolded in Newcastle, revealing the heinous actions of Aftab Ahmed, a man with a troubling history of sexual offenses. The incident took place in Nuns Moor Park, located in the West End of Newcastle, where a 17-year-old girl was subjected to a savage assault by Ahmed, who had been lurking in the park after a period of premeditation fueled by online depravity.

According to court reports, Ahmed, aged 31 and a married father of three, had been consuming violent and explicit pornography over several months. This disturbing consumption appeared to have influenced his decision to turn his sick fantasies into a grim reality. On the evening of March 28, around 8:10 pm, the victim, who had just been discharged from hospital and was seeking some fresh air, sat on a park bench in Nuns Moor Park. Her peaceful moment was shattered when she noticed Ahmed running towards her.

As she attempted to leave the area in fear, Ahmed suddenly seized her from behind, grabbing her around the neck and dragging her into nearby bushes. Despite her desperate pleas for him to stop, he ignored her protests and proceeded to subject her to a degrading and painful ordeal. During the attack, he bit her and issued threats to kill her, displaying a terrifying level of violence and predatory intent.

Ahmed forced her to the ground by twisting her arm and demanded she perform a sexual act, threatening her with death if she refused. The assault escalated as he groped her, bit her, and forcibly removed her lower clothing, raping her again in the process. After the attack concluded, Ahmed inquired if she wanted money, but she refused. The victim was able to provide police with a detailed description of her attacker, noting that he was wearing a distinctive Adidas jacket. Law enforcement officials quickly identified him through CCTV footage and house-to-house inquiries.

Further investigation revealed that Ahmed was employed at a local food store, and he was subsequently arrested. His wife also provided crucial evidence, stating that he had returned home later than usual that night, appearing out of breath. When questioned, Ahmed claimed he had been out for a run, a story his wife found suspicious, especially since he had never previously gone for a run. The following day, he was seen wearing the same clothes, but he later changed and disposed of the original garments, which were later recovered from a bin near his workplace.

Examination of Ahmed’s phone uncovered an extensive web history of extreme pornography dating back to early 2018. Notably, minutes before the assault, he was researching how long police take to make arrests based on fingerprint evidence and whether it is possible to remove fingerprints. After the attack, he was checking news reports about other rape cases, sentencing details, and government websites discussing life imprisonment.

Ahmed’s criminal record included a previous conviction for a sexual assault committed in September 2016, near the same area. In that incident, he forcibly grabbed a 27-year-old student walking at night, but she managed to pursue him, and a passer-by detained him. His history of predatory behavior, combined with his recent actions, led to a severe sentence. At Newcastle Crown Court, Judge Robert Spragg sentenced Ahmed to nine years in prison, with a minimum of two-thirds to be served before parole eligibility. Additionally, he was given an extended license period until 2033 and ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Judge Spragg described the attack as one driven by Ahmed’s fantasized predatory urges, noting that his behavior was both planned and deeply dangerous. He emphasized that Ahmed’s prior offending and the nature of this assault demonstrated a significant risk of reoffending. The judge also highlighted the serious and ongoing harm inflicted on the victim, who had not previously engaged in sexual activity, and her family, who expressed the profound impact this incident had on their lives. The girl underwent medical tests to check for potential infections.

During his time in prison, Ahmed attempted to feign psychiatric illness by smearing and eating his own feces, an act intended to secure transfer to a hospital wing. His behavior and history of violence underscore the severity of his predatory tendencies and the danger he poses to society.
