ADNAN BARI FROM ISLEWORTH AND EGHAM SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AT ROYAL HOLLOWAY COLLEGE

In January 2008, a disturbing case of sexual assault involving a security guard named Adnan Bari, aged 20, came to light. Bari was employed as a security officer during a summer exchange program at Royal Holloway College, located in Egham. On the night of August 7, 2007, he committed a heinous act that would lead to his subsequent imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Toyin Salako, the case was brought before Guildford Crown Court, where it was revealed that the victim, a 14-year-old girl, was residing in the college halls of residence. She was in her room with the door slightly ajar but not locked when the incident occurred. The court heard that she was awakened at approximately 4 a.m. to find Bari lying on her bed, touching her while her nightdress and underwear had been rolled up. The girl was reportedly terrified and immediately jumped out of bed, screaming for help in an effort to alert others.

During the court proceedings, it was detailed how Bari responded to her screams by attempting to strangle her and holding a knife to her throat, a terrifying act that left her in a state of panic. Despite her pleas and desperate attempts to defend herself, Bari continued his assault, telling her to be quiet and stop screaming. He claimed that all he wanted was to lie on her and kiss her, explicitly denying any intention of having sex. The girl, in her distress, begged him to leave her alone and even clasped her hands together in prayer, pleading for mercy.
