ADAM VOWLER SENTENCED IN LISKEARD FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT
Adam Vowler, a 34-year-old man from Liskeard, caused serious injuries following a violent assault on his partner after they returned from an evening out. According to court reports, the incident occurred at her home in Pelynt after they had been drinking Prosecco and listening to music. Suddenly, Vowler lunged at his partner, violently punching her and attempting to strangle her. Specifically, he placed his hands around her neck, resulting in bruising and swelling around her right eye, and struck her in the face, leaving visible injuries. During the attack, he also broke her necklaces and grabbed her by the jaw to prevent her from speaking. The assault lasted roughly two hours, beginning before midnight on October 13 of the previous year. After the attack, Vowler shouted at her, saying, "you will get back with me," before leaving her home. The victim, who chose to remain anonymous, provided a victim impact statement in which she expressed her distress: "I can't go to work because of my face. I can't see my children because I don't want them to see my face. I'll have to lie to them and say I have Covid as I don't want them to worry." Vowler was arrested following a police call and pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm and criminal damage. During court proceedings, he showed remorse, and the judge sentenced him to 10 months in prison, suspended for 20 months. The judge also ordered additional measures, including 30 days of a specialized program, 10 days of rehabilitation activities, 200 hours of unpaid work, and a financial penalty of £300. Emphasizing the importance of addressing domestic violence, the judge highlighted that trust within intimate relationships makes such offenses particularly serious. He noted that while alcohol was an aggravating factor, it does not serve as an excuse. Vowler acknowledged his wrongdoing and committed to changing his behavior to prevent future incidents.
