ADAM PLANT AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN HULL
A man from East Yorkshire, Adam Plant, who is known for his business ventures in the region, has been found guilty and sentenced for assaulting a young girl in Hull.Plant, aged 42 and residing on Skirlaugh Road in Old Ellerby, is described as a disgraced businessman with underlying perverted tendencies.
His crime involved engaging in inappropriate and sexualised communication with a minor and ultimately physically groping her after an incident where he offered her a glass of whisky.
The sequence of events unfolded as Plant sent the young girl highly sexualized messages, which indicated his predatory intentions.
Following this, he proceeded to physically assault her by groping her against her will, an act that occurred after he had supplied her with alcohol.
In an effort to conceal his misconduct, Plant later attempted to erase evidence — he deleted screenshots of the incriminating messages from her phone and even sought to influence the girl’s mother by urging her to drop the complaint, showing a clear attempt to obstruct justice.
Plant faced three serious charges: sexual activity with a girl under 16, engaging in sexual communication with a minor, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Despite his denials, a jury comprised of eight men and four women at Hull Crown Court found him guilty of these offences after a trial held in August.
The impact of Plant’s criminal actions was vividly highlighted during the sentencing hearing, when prosecutor Richard Thompson read out sections of the victim’s impact statement.
The young girl expressed her lasting trauma, stating, “I probably won’t see boys and men in the same way I used to.” She added, “When I am old enough and when I’m doing older stuff I think it just won’t be the same because of what he did.
I still get scared whenever I go somewhere that I think I might see him.” The court heard that the consequences of Plant’s actions extended beyond the victim herself, causing significant emotional distress to her family.
She confided that she sometimes blames herself, saying, “Sometimes I just think it is all my fault.” Her mother’s statement was equally distressing, revealing her own mental health struggles following her daughter’s ordeal.
She explained that she was overwhelmed by guilt and had even attempted to take her own life shortly after learning about her daughter’s experience.
The mother described how she took an overdose and was found on the Humber Bridge, feeling broken and unable to cope.
She recounted that she was unable to care for herself during that tumultuous period and was off work for six months, illustrating the profound toll these events had on her mental health.
Both the victim and her family continue to grapple with the hurt and anger caused by Adam Plant’s actions, which have forever altered their lives.
The court's ruling reflects the gravity of the offences and the lasting damage inflicted on the young victim and her loved ones.
