MAN WANTED TO MEET BOY AT BROADMARSH TOILETS FOR SEX
A decoy profile of a fictitious 14-year-old boy attracted a man from Nottingham who wanted to have sex with him, a court heard.The 'teenager' made Adam Metcalfe aware that he lived in a children's home - which "would have made him a vulnerable youth", said Stuart Pattinson, prosecuting.
Metcalfe - who has a learning disability - asked the 'boy' if he had ever engaged in gay sex.
He also sent him a picture of himself naked in front of a mirror.
They swapped numbers and their chat moved to WhatsApp, Nottingham Crown Court heard.
Metcalfe, of Alderton Road, Bestwood, asked if he wanted to meet up.
"It is clear the purpose of that would be sexual activity," explained Mr Pattinson.
The 'boy' mentioned he was on a curfew at the children's home at the time - which did not seem to faze Metcalfe, a married man with children, the court heard.
Metcalfe even sent the 'boy' an intimate picture and described what he wished to do to him, which included a sex act.
"He asked him to meet him at the toilets at Broadmarsh in Nottingham city centre for that purpose," said Mr Pattinson.
After agreeing to meet, the person behind the profile, part of an online group, travelled to catch Metcalfe getting off a bus at the end of his working day.
"On February 14, he confronted the defendant, who initially denied involvement," said Mr Pattinson.
"He showed him a picture sent to the fictitious profile, and he had little choice but to accept what he had done and conceded it was wrong".
Metcalfe, 31, who had no previous convictions, was represented by Christopher Jeyes, who said "you can never know this defendant would have ever carried out the meeting".
Metcalfe pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a boy under 16 years of age following grooming and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
Judge Sally Hancox ordered he sign the sex offender's register and be on a sexual harm prevention order for five years.
He received a three-year community order and must attend sessions on an accredited programme.
