BECK ROW MAN JAILED FOR STRANGLING EX-GIRLFRIEND TILL SHE LOST CONSCIOUSNESS
A Beck Row man who strangled his ex-partner until she fell unconscious has been sentenced to jail.Adam Hubbard, aged 28, from Tithe Avenue, attacked his former partner in April.
The court heard that Hubbard became angry after the woman informed his new girlfriend that he had been driving a stolen car.
On April 28, around 11 am, Hubbard visited his ex-partner in Cambridge and pleaded with her to lie to his new girlfriend about the stolen car claim, but she refused, leading to an argument.
During the altercation, Hubbard strangled the woman until she passed out.
The victim, who had a five-year relationship with Hubbard that ended in June last year, later reported the assault.
Hubbard discovered this two days afterward and tried to persuade her to withdraw her police report.
He was arrested two days later and admitted to charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intimidating a witness, receiving stolen goods, driving without insurance, and driving without a license.
On Thursday at Peterborough Crown Court, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison and received a five-year restraining order to prevent contact with his victim.
Detective Constable Sean Clery commented on the case, stating, “Although Hubbard admitted these offences, his actions were totally unacceptable.
Hubbard’s intent was clear, as he admitted via text message to his victim that he only stopped strangling her because their young son walked into the kitchen.
The victim was fortunate to escape with only pain and headaches, but the outcome could have been worse.
I want to thank her for her bravery in reporting the assault and supporting the conviction.
Tackling domestic abuse is a priority, and our officers work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice.”
