In September 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving Adam Hart, a resident of Clacton, Essex, who was found to possess an alarming collection of indecent images of children on his personal laptop. Hart admitted to three counts of possessing indecent images of children during his court appearance. The case was heard at Chelmsford Crown Court, where Judge Timothy Walker delivered a stern judgment. The judge condemned Hart for causing lifelong suffering to victims and emphasized the gravity of his offenses. However, in a rare move, Judge Walker chose an 'exceptional course' of sentencing, opting not to send Hart to prison.

Instead, Hart was sentenced to a three-year community order, which includes a requirement to participate in 90 days of rehabilitation programs aimed at addressing his behavior. Additionally, he was ordered to wear an electronic tag for 24 hours a day over the course of one year to monitor his movements. To further restrict his activities, Hart was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and mandated to register as a sex offender for five years, ensuring ongoing oversight and restrictions to protect the community.
