ABDUL SALIH AND BAHALDIN DOUD SENTENCED IN HUDDERSFIELD TOWN CENTRE COURT CASE
In March 2019, two men, Abdul Salih and Bahaldin Doud, were sentenced to 13 years each after a teenage girl was gang raped in a Huddersfield town centre subway. The 17-year-old victim was assaulted on July 14 of the previous year in the subway that runs beneath the A62 Castlegate, situated between New North Road Baptist Church and the former Technical College building.
Abdul Latif Salih, aged 35 and residing on Trinity Street in Huddersfield town centre, and Bahaldin Doud, aged 21 from Village Terrace in Burley, Leeds, appeared in court and received their sentences on the Monday following the incident.
Salih was found guilty of multiple charges including causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, rape, and attempted rape.
Doud was convicted of two counts of attempted rape.
A third individual, Saddam Muhamadaim, aged 18 of Blacker Road in Birkby, is currently awaiting sentencing related to the same case.
All three men were connected to the crime through forensic evidence, leading to their arrest and charging by police within days of the attack.
Muhamadaim was convicted of three counts of rape and one count of attempted rape.
His sentencing has been postponed until an investigation into his age is completed, as this could influence the severity of his punishment.
At Leeds Crown Court, it was revealed that Muhamadaim, who immigrated to the UK from Sudan, initially provided his date of birth as January 1993 on an asylum registration form.
However, he later told police it was March 2001, which would mean he was 17 at the time of the offence, rather than 25.
He has since been returned to custody.
Both Salih and Doud will be registered on the sex offenders register as part of their sentencing.
