ABDASSALAM EHBAIR FROM CARDIFF SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON VULNERABLE TEENAGER
In November 2018, a disturbing case unfolded involving Abdassalam Ehbair, a man residing in Cardiff, who was convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl. The incident drew significant attention due to the nature of the offense and the background of the offender.
Abdassalam Ehbair, aged 38, is known to have previously studied for a PhD in chemistry at Bangor University.
At the time of the incident, he was living on Newport Road in Cardiff.
The court proceedings revealed that Ehbair had pleaded guilty to charges of sexual touching, which involved forcibly kissing the young girl, molesting her bottom, and squeezing her breasts during the assault.
The victim, a teenage girl, described her ordeal as deeply traumatic, revealing that she had even contemplated ending her life as a result of the incident.
Her testimony highlighted the severity of the impact Ehbair’s actions had on her mental health and well-being.
The court at Caernarfon heard that Ehbair, a married man and father, accepted that his behavior was “entirely wrong.” The magistrates’ chairman, Gwilym Morgan, explicitly stated, “You sexually assaulted a vulnerable young victim,” emphasizing the gravity of the offense.
As part of his sentence, Ehbair was given an eight-week jail term, which was suspended, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offense within a specified period.
Additionally, a community order was imposed, requiring him to adhere to a four-month curfew from 7 pm to 7 am.
He was also ordered to pay £200 in compensation to the victim and cover costs amounting to £265.
Further, Ehbair is mandated to register as a sex offender for a period of seven years, a measure intended to monitor and prevent future offenses.
His solicitor, Glyn Roberts, stated that Ehbair had received a grant from immigration authorities, though the details of this are not specified.
The case underscores the ongoing issues surrounding sexual misconduct and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals in society.
