AARON THORNHILL JAILED FOR 14 YEARS IN DAVENTRY FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST YOUNG GIRL
In a case that has shocked the community of Daventry, Aaron Thornhill, a 28-year-old man residing on Roderick Way in the Headlands area, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 14 years after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses committed against a young girl. The sentencing took place at Northampton Crown Court on Thursday, December 8, following a detailed trial that uncovered the extent of Thornhill's disturbing actions.Thornhill was found guilty of ten separate sexual offenses, which spanned over a period of one year. The crimes began when the victim was only five years old, highlighting the disturbing nature of the abuse. The charges included four counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault by penetration, one count of sexual assault by penetration with an object, and four counts of sexual touching. These offenses paint a grim picture of the abuse inflicted upon the young girl, whose innocence was tragically compromised.
The court sentenced Thornhill to 14 years in prison, with the stipulation that he must serve at least half of his sentence before being eligible for parole. An additional year will be added to the parole period, further extending the time before he can seek release. In addition to his prison sentence, Thornhill was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which aims to restrict his contact with children and prevent any further harm.
It is important to note that Thornhill’s criminal activities did not occur through his employment at a local children’s nursery in Daventry, nor through his association with a taxi firm. The offenses were committed independently of his professional roles, which may have otherwise provided a layer of trust and community standing.
During the court proceedings, a victim personal statement was read aloud on behalf of the young girl’s mother, given her daughter’s tender age and inability to speak for herself. The mother expressed her distress and concern, stating: “She gets upset if me or my partner leave her alone. She won’t sleep with any light because she says if the lights are on people will find her.”
She further revealed that her daughter experiences panic attacks at the thought of encountering Thornhill again, even to the extent of wetting herself out of fear. The mother expressed her anguish, saying, “As her mother I feel that I should have been able to protect her from this, to keep her safe.” The case underscores the devastating impact of Thornhill’s actions on the young victim and her family, and the community’s demand for justice and safety.
