CRUEL FIFE ABUSER HANDCUFFED VICTIM AND THREATENED TO ‘EAT HER HEART’

A man from Fife convicted of domestic abuse issued frightening threats to kill his partner and even talked about ‘eating her heart’ over nearly six years, a court has heard.

Aaron Ireland restrained his partner on one occasion by handcuffs to stop her from leaving his home in Rosyth after she attempted to end their relationship.

On another instance, he grabbed her by the neck when she tried to leave after discovering he had taken a photograph of her sleeping.

The 33-year-old appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to admit to a pattern of abusive behaviour at addresses in Fife from 2019 onwards.

He also pleaded guilty to being involved in the cannabis supply and possessing an air pistol without a proper certificate at a property on Hudson Road, Rosyth, on November 21, 2024.

Prosecutor Ronnie Hay told the court that Ireland had routinely threatened his partner during their relationship, saying that if he died, she would too.

He would threaten to self-harm if she tried to end things and once cut his own face in an attempt to manipulate her.

When she attempted to leave his home, Ireland handcuffed her, causing bruising on her wrists, and on another occasion, punched her in the head, resulting in a black eye.

The court was told Ireland accessed her phone to send messages to a male friend, then deleted those messages along with others showing her injuries.

The prosecutor recounted that Ireland once expressed that he avoided going out because he might harm someone and discussed killing people, which made her anxious.

He was evicted from his Pembroke location in November 2024 following bankruptcy related to mortgage and council tax debts.

Ireland reportedly made further threats after eviction, including discussions about killing the woman and burning her house down, even mentioning cutting her Achilles tendons to prevent her from fleeing, and threatening to crack her skull and eat her heart, though he later doubted the latter due to poison concerns.

Despite eviction, the woman gave a police statement, and their relationship briefly continued.

On Valentine’s Day last year, she found a photograph on Ireland’s phone of her sleeping, which upset her.

As she prepared to leave, Ireland blocked the door, and when she attempted to exit, he grabbed her by the neck, pushed her, and then struck her temple, wounding her and swelling her face.

Police investigation revealed Ireland possessed a Gamo air pistol that was not operational and lacked a proper license, along with around 388 grams of cannabis worth approximately £3,470 to £3,930.

Sentencing was deferred until July 14 for background reports and consideration of a non-harassment order.

Ireland, a first-time offender, was released on bail, and the court ordered the air pistol to be forfeited.
