AARON HUSCROFT FROM HEBBURN SENTENCED FOR GROSS SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING TWO YOUNG GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the Hebburn community, Aaron Huscroft, a 40-year-old man from Hebburn, was convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses involving two young girls. The incidents, which began when the victims were only eight years old, spanned several years and left lasting scars on the victims' lives.Huscroft was found guilty at Newcastle Crown Court of six counts related to sexual assault and inciting sexual behavior. Throughout the trial, the jury was presented with disturbing evidence of the abuse, which the victims endured from a very young age. The court heard that the two girls, who are now older, continue to suffer emotional and psychological effects from the trauma inflicted upon them.
Prosecutor Katherine Dunn described the profound impact the abuse has had on one of the victims, noting a significant change in her personality. She explained, “Previously she was an outgoing girl, with a variety of friends who she socialised with regularly. After the assault, she became withdrawn and rarely goes out alone. She now spends most of her time at home.”
Similarly, the second victim’s educational progress has been affected, and she has expressed fear of encountering the defendant again. Miss Dunn emphasized that both girls are still haunted by their experiences and that their lives have been deeply affected.
Throughout the proceedings, Huscroft maintained his innocence, vehemently denying any involvement in the crimes. His defense attorney, Julian Smith, highlighted that there was no prior record of any offending behavior, asserting, “There is no record of offending of this nature, or any offending at all in his history.”
However, Judge Roger Thorn was highly critical of Huscroft’s attempts to dismiss the allegations. He condemned the defendant for trying to persuade the jury that the accusations were part of a conspiracy and that the victims were blackmailing him. The judge stated, “You ran the defence that it was all a conspiracy, that they were blackmailing and were thoroughly dishonest. That defence was disbelieved.”
Judge Thorn also pointed out Huscroft’s lack of remorse and noted the deep-seated attitudes revealed in a probation report. The judge emphasized the severity of the crimes, describing them as “of a gross sexual nature,” and underscored that the abuse was sustained over several years, beginning when the victims were as young as eight.
In addition to the eight-year prison sentence, Huscroft was handed an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, which will restrict his contact with children in the future. He is also required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. The court’s decision reflects the gravity of the offenses and the lasting harm caused to the victims, with Judge Thorn making it clear that such crimes are taken very seriously in the judicial system.
