SCOTT SINCLAIR SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN EDINBURGH AND MANCHESTER
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Edinburgh and Manchester, two men have been convicted and sentenced for heinous acts involving the sexual abuse of a young boy and the distribution of child exploitation images.The case came to light after police investigations uncovered a series of videos depicting the abuse, which were recorded by the offenders themselves and shared via social media platforms.
At the High Court in Edinburgh, Richard Gallagher, aged 27, and Scott Sinclair, aged 30, faced justice for their involvement in these grave crimes.
Gallagher was sentenced to seven years in prison, while Sinclair received a harsher sentence of 12 years.
The court also imposed additional supervision orders on Sinclair for five years following his release, reflecting the severity of his crimes.
The police investigation was initiated after authorities in Aberdeen discovered the videos on a phone belonging to Robert Stewart, a man from Aberdeen.
The court heard that the explicit footage showed Sinclair and Gallagher engaging in sexual acts and assaulting a young boy, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons.
The videos were part of a series, with Sinclair having recorded multiple instances of abuse over a period spanning from June 2011 to April 2014.
Further investigation revealed that Sinclair had begun abusing the boy as early as June 2007, when the victim was only eight years old.
The abuse took place at various locations, including addresses in the Falkirk area and later in Edinburgh.
The court was told that Gallagher had met Sinclair through an online dating website, and the two men occasionally met for sexual encounters.
From 2011 onwards, Sinclair made videos of himself engaging in sexual acts with the boy, which were later shared with others.
In April 2014, both Gallagher and Sinclair sexually assaulted the boy at an address in Edinburgh, filming the abuse.
Gallagher then shared the footage with Robert Stewart via WhatsApp, along with other videos of Sinclair’s abuse.
The police raided Stewart’s home in Aberdeen in June 2014, where they discovered the videos on his phone.
Stewart later pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children.
The arrests of Gallagher and Sinclair followed a thorough investigation by detectives, who gathered enough evidence to charge both men.
They pled guilty to the charges at the High Court in Glasgow last month, prior to their sentencing.
During the court proceedings, Sinclair’s defense attorney, John McElroy, acknowledged his client’s guilt, describing the abuse as one of the most vile he had encountered.
Sinclair was visibly shaken and wept in the dock as he accepted his guilt.
Gallagher’s legal representative, Gary Allan QC, also confirmed his client’s remorse and acceptance of responsibility.
Both men’s sentences reflect the gravity of their crimes and the court’s duty to protect the public from such predatory behavior.
Judge Lord Boyd emphasized the heinous nature of the offenses, condemning the offenders for treating the young victim as a sexual object and for the added degradation caused by filming the abuse.
The judge underscored the importance of imposing lengthy custodial sentences to serve justice and safeguard society from further harm.
