MAN SENTENCED FOR STRANGLING A WOMAN
A man aged 32 from Dawley appeared before Shrewsbury Crown Court to be sentenced for an attack on a woman in Telford.David Holford, of Purbeckdale, received a suspended prison sentence after an incident in November 2022.
The court revealed that he deliberately strangled the woman during the assault on 17 November 2022.
He initially faced charges with a different plea but changed his plea to guilty on 18 November 2025, just before the trial was scheduled to start.
Circuit Judge D Mathews sentenced him on 2 April 2026 to two years in prison, suspended for two years.
The court also ordered Holford to comply with a rehabilitation requirement, which involves attending appointments or participating in activities for up to 30 days under supervision.
A restraining order was issued, preventing him from contacting the victim until April 2035.
In addition to the suspended sentence, he was ordered to pay a £187 statutory surcharge, with a deadline for full payment set for 2 May 2026.
