ZOE POWELL OF RUARDEAN SENTENCED FOR DOG NEGLECT IN FOREST OF DEAN

Zoe Powell, born on 26 March 1976 and residing on Bellevue Road, Ruardean GL17 9UY, was convicted in 2019 for severely neglecting her American bulldog, Beethoven. The dog was found in poor condition, underweight, with sore patches on his ears and body.

The Forest of Dean District Council prosecuted Powell after her dog was discovered straying and in distress. Beethoven's condition was a result of neglect; veterinary reports confirmed he was underweight for his breed and size, with no medical explanation for his weight loss. The only conclusion was that he had been inadequately fed.

The sore patches on Beethoven's body were believed to be pressure sores caused by a lack of muscle and body fat, resulting from prolonged lying down due to neglect.

Fortunately, Beethoven has since made a good recovery from the neglect he suffered.

Councillor Tim Gwilliam, leader of the Forest of Dean District Council, stated: “I’d like to thank our local street wardens for acting quickly to save Beethoven from neglect. As a council, we take animal welfare seriously, and this case demonstrates our commitment to taking action where necessary. I’m pleased that the court has ordered Miss Powell to be disqualified from keeping or caring for any dogs for at least the next five years.”

In sentencing, Powell faced total costs, fines, and charges amounting to £787.50. Additionally, she was banned from keeping cats and dogs for a minimum of five years.
