ZINEELABIBINE ABBOOD SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR RAPE IN GLASGOW SECONDARY SCHOOL
A young man identified as Zineelabibine Abbood has been sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of raping a fellow pupil at a secondary school in Glasgow.The incident took place during a lunch break on 29 November 2019, within the confines of the school’s music room.
Despite the victim’s repeated protests and attempts to resist, Abbood continued his assault until a teacher unexpectedly entered the room, bringing the attack to an end.
The victim, who was visibly distressed and in tears, was found by the teacher in a state of trauma.
The court was told that both Abbood and the girl were in their mid-teens at the time of the assault.
During the trial, Abbood, now aged 21, claimed that the sexual contact was initiated by the girl herself and that he had consented to what happened.
He told his lawyer, Paul Mullen, that he believed the girl had made the first move and that their actions were consensual until interrupted by the teacher.
In his testimony, Abbood stated that he was trying to comfort the girl after she received some bad news, and he expressed regret for any perceived rudeness in being in the music room.
When questioned about whether he believed the encounter was consensual, he suggested that the girl might have been embarrassed because the teacher found them.
However, prosecutors argued that the reality was far more severe, with evidence indicating that Abbood had raped the girl, biting, pulling, and groping her during the assault.
The court heard that during the incident, the victim was subjected to biting, groping, and other forms of physical assault, which caused her injury.
Advocate depute Ruaraidh Ferguson highlighted that the teacher, upon entering the classroom, observed the girl upset and believed she had been crying for some time.
