ZACH PEPLOE FROM HIGHBRIDGE SENTENCED IN TAUNTON COURT FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING SCHOOLGIRLS
A 21-year-old man from Somerset, Zach Peploe, has been sentenced to three years and ten months in prison for engaging in sexual activities with underage girls. The offences occurred when Peploe was aged 17, 18, and 19, targeting five girls between the ages of 12 and 14.
Peploe used social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat to pursue some of his victims.
He sent nude and sexually explicit videos of himself and told others that they were beautiful and that he loved them.
His interactions often culminated in him having sex with the girls at his home or in his car.
The court was informed that the victims, all vulnerable teenagers, were deeply affected by their encounters.
They now experience flashbacks, anxiety, and difficulties trusting men.
One victim had self-harmed, and another attempted an overdose due to trauma.
A report from the probation service described Peploe as having shown little remorse, immaturity, and coming from a challenging background.
Peploe pleaded guilty to nine offences involving five victims, including acts such as engaging in sexual activity with a child and inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual acts.
Prosecutor Ms.
Nikki Coombe outlined some of his misconduct, stating that Peploe groped a 14-year-old girl’s breasts after she fell asleep in his car when he was 17.
Another victim, only 12 at the time, received videos of him masturbating.
When he was 18, he sought naked pictures from a girl on Instagram, complimented her, and sent her explicit messages, making her feel sick.
A third distressed victim told her teacher that she had sex with Peploe when she was 14 and he was 18, feeling pressured into the act.
Despite being under police investigation, Peploe continued offending and targeted two additional girls.
One 14-year-old consented to sex at his house after feeling too frightened to refuse.
When she revealed her age, he responded with “cool” and boasted about his sexual experiences.
He also engaged in sex with other girls aged 13 and 14 when he was 19.
Police investigations into his phone revealed he had been contacting hundreds of girls monthly via Facebook, attempting to establish conversations.
His defense lawyer, Mr.
Harry Ahuja, described Peploe as a 'vulnerable young man' suffering from borderline personality disorder and from a lack of stable upbringing.
He added that Peploe had made progress since his arrest and emphasized that he never lied about his age to the girls nor forced them into sexual activity.
Judge Paul Cook ordered restraining orders to prevent Peploe from contacting his victims directly.
Additionally, Peploe received a 10-year sexual offences behaviour order to mitigate his risk once he is released into the community.
He is also required to sign the sex offender register indefinitely.
