EAST LONDON BOY, 18, CONVICTED OF KILLING GIRLFRIEND
Yahya Gul, an 18-year-old male, was found guilty of the murder of his 17-year-old girlfriend, Aliza Mirza, on Forest View Road in Manor Park, east London, on April 3.Initially, Gul denied involvement in the killing but later changed his plea to guilty at the beginning of his trial at the Old Bailey.
court proceedings revealed that Mirza died after being stabbed in the neck, with additional stab wounds to her chest and upper abdomen, leading to her bleeding to death.
Witnesses observed Gul having an argument with Mirza shortly before the stabbing incident.
Following the attack, Gul attended a nightclub in Shaftesbury Avenue with friends.
He also lied about the circumstances, instructing his father to drive him to Dover, claiming he had been involved in a fight that resulted in a death.
Prosecutor John McGuinness QC said that Gul's actions evidenced an intent to kill rather than cause injury.
Gul received a sentence of at least 12 years in prison.
During the trial, Aliza's father, Munir Mirza, delivered a victim impact statement, expressing his grief and questioning why Gul ended his daughter's life.
